Staying fit and active is so important especially around the holiday season. Don't deprive yourself of your favorite holiday treats. We don't! Hawaiian dancing is a great way to have fun and stay in shape. This dance not only strengthens your upper body muscles but works your core and your lower body as well. Working your arms with the gestures and the legs are constantly moving, your hips keep the rhythm with this sway side to side. Start by bending your knees placing your hands on your hips and pressing play to your favorite tropic beat. Think tropical thoughts also !!!! The trick is staying in your plié which works the thighs butt and quads. Stand up straight, and suck in your stomach. Working your core you will feel this once simple step begins to fatigue your muscles. Sway side to side try a single vamp and a double vamp. A nice cool sweat keeps your body happy and healthy and can be done almost immediately. Now stand in place and circle your hips around as if u are hula hooping. Yes you are still standing in plié. Keep the upper body still and begin to change direction. Isolate your hips from the rest of your body and make your ami turn you all the way around in a circle. How about trying a few figure 8's. Hands still on your hips and knees bent make a small circle on the right side and a small circle on the left side. Alternate the bend in your knee by moving your hips from left to right. Now try a small combination of all these steps and change the pace of the movement by moving with the song. Great job in just 2 songs that's 10 minutes u should feel like u ran a race! Now enjoy that holiday cookie and don't feel bad about it cause u deserve it Wahine!
